Detailing, Joinery and Construction: Earthbound d+c

A modernist addition to a Heritage building in Newcastle’s Garden Heritage listed suburb of Hamilton.

The original house was in poor condition and involved a full rebuild. The new addition complements the character of the original building, taking advantage of the large bedrooms and high ceilings.

Thoughtful integration of the original detailing of the house was key to the successful integration of old and new in what is effectively a technologically strong practice. Being a commercial medical practice, the project carried very prescriptive constraints; the client wished to create a business model that reflected traditional values of respect for his patients and making them feel comfortable; favouring the warm tones of hardwood and clean finishes.
